Achieving global excellence in HR management-A A +A
Wednesday, June 18, 2014
I WAS fortunate to be a part of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP)-Negros Chapter’s whole day learning experience on “The Secret of Leading and Managing People…A Gentle Art of Employee Disciple: The E.D.G.E. (Employee Discipline for Global Excellence)” at the O Hotel last June 11.
The speaker was PMAP national president Atty. Josephus Jimenez, former undersecretary of DOLE.
Atty. Jimenez spoke so eloquently on employee discipline and grievance management and how the human resource managers and line managers can bring about a competitive edge into their workplace.
To hear his stories and punch lines that effectively drove the points he was trying to make, what I expected to be a routine technical lecture became a treat that makes every subject matter relatable and memorable.
He specifically focused on how the human resource (HR) managers and officers can effectively collaborate with line managers in order to formulate plans for the whole organization, promulgate plans with the CEO (chief executive officer) and COO (chief operating officer), communicate these plans with the leadership of the HR, implement the plans through the line managers, monitor these plans through the supervision of the line managers and the support of the HR, and finally, analyze the plans’ efficiency and effectiveness by the HR wherein the results shall be used to improve on the plans made for the organization.
During lunch break, I was able to converse with Atty. Jimenez and he shared his term’s objectives and plans in order to fulfill PMAP’s 2014 theme which is, “HR Readiness Towards ASEAN Integration.”
Among his programs and plans of action are:
*Establishment of more PMAP chapters, Junior PMAP schools, and PMAP chapters abroad
*Strategic accessibility by opening a PMAP office in Bonifacio Global City or Makati and expand PMAP-On-Line Consultancy, services and availability
*Standardization of core competencies for ASEAN integration – breaking through by regional and global accreditation and synergies
*Refocusing and acceleration of strategic development training programs
*Strengthening of the PMAP chapters, teams and industry HR leaders
*Regular HR book publications
*Accrediting training programs and resource persons for ASEAN and global readiness and competitiveness
*Refocusing of general membership meetings and annual conferences into truly inspiring and learning experience
*Creation of awards for HR guru/writer, HR research, HR innovation, ASEAN integration advocacy, CSR excellence
*Synergies with government – linking with legislative, executive, judiciary, bar, bench for policy reforms and advocacy
*Spearheading the overhaul of the Philippine Human Capital Code (Labor Code)
*HR Global Conference to be led by PMAP in Malaysia or Singapore
*Choosing PMAP top caliber experts for intensive global training as our advanced team for ASEAN Integration
As a fitting way to end the day, the program ended with the induction of PMAP-Negros Chapter’s set of officers for 2014 with Atty. Jimenez as the inducting officer.
With the active leadership of PMAP in the advocacy on human resource management, global excellence can well be within our grasps.
