IT HAS been my dream for Bacolod City to have its own Fashion Week like those in Imperial Manille and some key cities in the country.

Last year, the 1st MassKara Fashion Week was created as an official event of the MassKara Festival, with Kasadya Bacolod Foundation spearheading it, led by Mr. Rhoderick Samonte.

I am thankful to Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella for his active support to the MassKara Fashion Week; without him, it would not have become a reality.

As chairperson of the MassKara Fashion Week 2013, I invited Sonny Cabahug to be our director. We formed the elite models who were dressed up by Bacolod's top fashion designers during the Designers’ Night and Viva y Moda.

Also, the teens and kids were given the chance to sashay on stage during the Fashion Protégé Ramp.

There was also the exhibition of the fabulous and expensive gowns of the doñas and señoritas of Negros Occidental at Robinsons Place, dubbed as Alta Ystilo. The gowns were made by Pitoy Moreno and Ben Farrales.

Moreover, Bacolod’s fashion designers showed their best gowns during the exhibit at SM City, dubbed Fab-Likha.

During the 2014 Lin-ay sang Negros coronation night last April, I was seated behind Mayor Monico Puentevella. I asked him if we will still hold a MassKara Fashion Week this October and I was so happy that he gave a positive response.

So for this year, as chairman of MassKara Fashion Week 2014, I invited Bacoleña supermodel Minmin Cherniguin-Ang to be the director and work with me for this year's staging of MassKara Fashion Week.

For the preparations, we are looking for new male and female models. Applicants must be good-looking, with nice body, and must be at least 5’7” for the ladies, and 5’10” for the men. A go-see for models will be announced soon.

This would mean busy days for me and Minmin ahead but we are happy to help our beloved Bacolod City to be the fashion capital of the Visayas soon.
