Celebrating 23 fruitful years of planting, harvesting seeds of faith-A A +A

THE Bukas Loob sa Diyos (BLD) Catholic, Charismatic and Covenant Community of Bacolod celebrated its 23rd anniversary last June 22.
About 250 of 400 members attended the celebration at the Benjamin Hall along 5th St. in Bacolod, said district servant leader Teddy Lacson.
The activity started with a Mass at 9 a.m. celebrated by district spiritual director Fr. Naring de la Cruz.
This was followed by two talks on the importance of being in a community discussed by guest speaker Bro. Rolando Borromeo, who is from Manila.
After the inspiring talks, a video presentation on the history of the BLD community in Bacolod was shown.
The BLD Singles Praise Ministry rendered lively music while the members fellowshipped with one another during agape lunch, Lacson said.
The success story of the BLD Bacolod District, like all of its districts all over the world, started from a small seed of faith.
This seed was brought to the City of Smiles in January 1991 by Norman and Gigi Campos, Monico and Patching Puentevella and Nena Sicangco.
The Camposes joined Marriage Encounter (ME) 154 at the Mirador Hill in Baguio City in January 1990. When the Camposes sponsored ME 158, which included the Puentevella couple in July of the same year, they asked Fr. Pascual Adorable if they could bring BLD to Bacolod.
With the support of the Council of Elders, the Camposes obtained the blessing of then Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, His Excellency Camilo D. Gregorio, who immediately gave his permission for BLD to establish its roots in Bacolod City.
The first ME of the BLD Bacolod District was held at the Scala Retreat House on Jan. 24-26, 1992. The presenting priest was Fr. Adorable, while the presenting couples were Sonny and Bai de los Reyes, and Joey and Marilou Velez. The sponsoring classes were Manila and Cebu Disciples. The encounter harvested 29 couples and two widows.
The success of ME 1 was followed by ME 2 on June 19 to 21 in the same year, with 26 couples and two widows. It was followed by ME 3 on December 11 to 13 with 30 couples and a priest, Fr. Naring de la Cruz. That’s three big MEs in one year!
“God has blessed the Bacolod District with the workers for His vineyard – allowing the community to plant seeds of faith in several parishes in Bacolod City, Kabankalan City and Iloilo City. It was the Administering District of the Jaro District-in-Process,” Lacson said.
Wherever Fr. Naring is assigned as parish priest, BLD Bacolod District establishes prayer communities. These are the Immaculate Conception Parish in Brgy. Villamonte, San Isidro Labrador Prayer Community in Brgy. Tangub, and St. Joseph the Worker Parish Prayer Community in Dona Juliana.
As of today, the BLD Bacolod District has successfully ran 58 MEs, 19 Family Encounters (FEs), 18 Single Encounters (SEs), 17 (Solo Parent Encounters (SPEs), 17 Youth Encounters (YEs) and 16 Youth Life in the Spirit Seminars (YLSSs).
The past 23 LSSs conducted by the BLD Bacolod District were participated by 158 seminarians from the Sacred Heart Seminary of the Diocese of Bacolod and 31 priests.
With its new BLD Mission and Vision and the call of Pope Francis for new evangelization, the community sponsored 31 scholars under the Scholarship of Hope (SOH) and has expanded its mission activities to include hospital visitations, prisoner counseling and visitations at the Bacolod City jails, repaired several chapels under the Building the Lord’s Domain project, and done several relief operations and repaired damaged houses.
The Mission Apostolate has been reorganized into Poverty Alleviation Ministry, Parish Service Ministry, and Institutional Service Ministry.
