Giving for the sake of giving-A A +A

ARE you tired of giving? Allow me to share a story from Michaels Kalendor.
Up in the Alps in Austria, beside the Maulbronn Monastery is a mountain spring gushing with cool, crystal-clear water. It is always a welcome sight to weary travelers exhausted by the climb.
The spring generously flows by the side of a hill through a pipe hewn from a tree stem. It then happily spills into a large trough hollowed out from a tree trunk.
Beside it is a sign in German with this message: “When someone comes here and drinks of my water, do you think he thanks me? But no matter - I just keep flowing on and gurgling on and singing as I go. How beautiful and simple is my life: I give, and keep on giving.”
Today, just today, give without expecting to be appreciated. Each new day is filled with magnificence!
The warm sun or the cool rain. The gift of sight that allows you to read this article. Your intellect that makes sense of it. Food that nourishes you. Family and friends. Work that allows you to contribute, to bless.
There are a million blessings that surround you today and all it takes is one ungrateful experience to spoil it all.
Maybe you woke up an extra hour just to prepare a special breakfast. What appreciation did you get? “Mom, you forgot to buy me my construction paper?” Instead of “Thank you for the hotcakes - they’re my favorite," you receive a complaint.
You stayed up late last night to prepare a report. “We started late, just make your presentation next week.” Can’t she at least say, “Thanks for the effort you put into the report.”
Ungratefulness or a lack of appreciation can spoil your day. But it does not have to.
Today, choose two things you would like to give. One at home and one at work.
Give the “gift” your all. But don’t give it to get an applause. Give it because you choose to make this day magnificent. Enjoy the process of giving.
Say, you want to prepare dessert for the family after dinner. Your usual is you bake them cookies. Then you put in on a plate and place it on the table.
Tonight, buy ice cream, chocolate syrup and cherry. Place the cookies in a basket. Then show them how to enjoy it. First the cookie, then ice cream on top… Your tongue can taste it! You get the idea? Give for the sake of giving!
At work do the same. Give a little extra. Smile at your clients. Do your work with a higher degree of excellence. Find out if there is anything else you can help them with. Add “God bless you!” when they stand up to leave.
“Keep gurgling on and singing” as you give of yourself today.
By the way, did you say “Thank You” to God for your gift of today?
Choose to have a Magnificent Monday!
