THE Busog Lusog Talino (BLT) School Feeding Program managed by the University of St. La Salle (USLS) in Bacolod is now on its 6th year of implementation in the province of Negros Occidental.

As of August 18 this year, the BLT School Feeding Program has reached out to 5,638 pupils in 120 public elementary schools across the province, according to Katherine Maguad, program officer of USLS- Institute for Negros Development.

The BLT Program is now implemented in the cities of Bago, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Sipalay, Talisay, Victorias; and the municipalities of Calatrava, Candoni, Cauayan, E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran Hinoba-an, Isabela, Manapla, Murcia, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Salvador Benedicto, San Enrique, Toboso and Valladolid.

The feeding will be conducted for at least 120 school days this school year.

The BLT School Feeding Program is a collaboration of various partners namely, Jollibee Group Foundation, the Department of Education, local government units, provincial government, Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation, Negros Nine Human Development Foundation, the Rotary Club of Bacolod South, St. Joseph School – La Salle, Balayan Social Development Office, Business Resource Center, USLS Integrated School – Community Services Center and the Institute for Negros Development.

The BLT partners commit to further collaborate and involve more stakeholders to ensure that no child will go to school hungry.

The program is not only a daily lunch feeding but also a formation for the pupils to eat healthy food, stay in school and learn better.

Through the USLS and implementing partners, BLT has helped more than 10,000 pupils since its first implementation in 2009.

Parents also have equally important roles in the program - marketing, cooking and serving the hot meals with the supervision of the teachers, Maguad said.

This way, parents also learn and enhance their skills in caring for the well-being of their children, Maguad added.
