Tanghalang Pilipino and IdeaCube present Sandosenang Sapatos, a Palanca Award-winning children’s play by Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) this weekend, from August 28 to 31.
Adapted as a children's musical by Layeta Bucoy, it’s back at the CCP-Studio Theater (Tanghalang Huseng Batute) on its third re-run with a new cast.
IdeaCube, Tanghalang Pilipino’s marketing partner, created a Sandosenang Sapatos innovative kit: a study guide for teachers and storytellers, a souvenir program, activity pages and a signed copy of the book as part of the ticket package, and a talkback with Gatmaitan after every performance.
Sandosenang Sapatos is a heartwarming, tearjerker children’s musical about a father’s love for her physically challenged daughter.
It received positive reviews and nominations such as being a finalist for Philstage’s Gawad Buhay: Outstanding Production for Children in a Musical or Play; finalist for the Best Female Lead in a Musical or Play category (Trixie Esteban) and finalist for Best Musical Direction (Noel Cabangon and Jed Balsamo).
This November Sandosenang Sapatos The Musical will represent the country in the 2014 Beijing International Theater Olympics, an international event to promote the development of theater and arts.
The International Affairs Office of the NCCA nominated TP. Several renowned theater directors and playwrights established the festival in Greece in 1993, with Theodoros Terzopoulos as chairman of its International Committee.
