THE annual University Week of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) in Bacolod City featured various activities from September 4 to 10 anchored on the theme “Heeding the Call to Holiness.”
The celebration, which aimed to uplift UNO-Rian values, kicked off with a mass the Oratory of St. Nicholas of Tolentine and motorcade joined by the university offices and organizations.
The opening ceremony was held at the University Amphitheatre followed by a cheer dance competition among the colleges and the integrated school.
On the second day, forums/seminars were conducted, including the International Abroad Orientation for Young Entrepreneurs, which aimed to boost a career through overseas training program which will help students become globally competitive, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Wildlife Act Seminar.
Among the third day highlights was the Drama and Stage Theatre Techniques class mid-term examination performance of the Mass Communication students held at the University Park. Students interacted with the crowd in their characters.
Other competitions included the Respolympics, the Bridge Building Contest, and the “Tagisan ng Talino.”
Students also showcased their wit and talents in the Literary-Musical Contest held on the fourth day. Pre-elementary Litmus was held in the morning while the Tertiary category was divided in two parts. The literary events were held in the morning while the musical events were staged in the afternoon.
The tertiary level was participated by the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Business and Accountancy, and the College of Allied Health Sciences.
Exhibits showcasing the talents, knowledge, and creativity of different university organizations were also part of the week-long event as well as fun rides in a mini-amusement park at the university parking lot.
Food stalls and souvenir booths were set up throughout the university grounds.
Also featured were horror rooms and mystery case rooms along with photo booths, movie rooms, and book stalls. (Julie Ann T. Gonzales, UNO-R MassComm intern)
