The inaugural Salapan Queen

Tuesday, February 13, 2018

FOR the first time, the province of Negros will hail a queen who shall promote and champion its effort for tourism and environmental conservation through the Inaugural Search of Salapan Festival Queen 2018.

All 12 ladies shall compete in major segments, like the highly anticipated gown competition; the fiesta feel courtesy of the production number round; and a display of athleticism and body form through the swimwear portion.

Miss Earth 2013 Angelee delos Reyes, a seasoned host and beauty queen will grace the town with her royal presence as host, together with this writer to conclude the journey of the contestants. The search is slated on February 16, 8 p.m. at Pulupandan Municipal Grandstand.

"Salap" is a local term which pertains to a way of fishing. In the town of Pulupandan, a coastal community in the said province, salap is a way for their livelihood to thrive, a tradition which has been passed on from countless generations of fishing families.

To celebrate its importance in the kind of culture that Pulupandanons have embodied as young children, and up until they grew to become heads of their families, salap has become a reason for merry making, thus the town's annual Salapan Festival.

Mayor Miguel Peña has underscored its local government unit's great thrust in preserving, and equally, improving its people's livelihood.

Salapan Festival will highlight the attributes of the locals in their quest for better lives through harmonizing communities, establishing peace as a focus for unity, and understanding the need to appreciate the town that is known for its position as home to a wide number of endemic fauna and flora.
