Hinoba-an lass wins Lin-ay crown

“I ENJOYED the pageant so much,” remarked Ann Marie Malayo, Lin-ay sang Hinobaan who was crowned Lin-ay sang Negros 2011 Friday night at the Panaad Stadium.

“I was not expecting to be crowned as Lin-ay sang Negros 2011. I’m proud and flattered but I believe my trust in God and self confidence made me win tonight,” she enthused.

Malayo bested 23 other candidates from all over the province in this year’s pageant.


Adjudged first runner up was Angela Joy Johns of Cadiz City while second runner up honors went to Mary Catherine Abayon of Bacolod City.

Malayo won a cash prize of P60,0000, one-night stay at Nature’s Village Hotel and Restaurant and a full scholarship in any university in the province and trophy.

Johns, on the other hand, received P40,000 in cash, 75 percent scholarship and trophy while Abayon got P20,000 cash, 50 percent scholarship and trophy.

Malayo also bested the other candidates in the best in swimsuit and best in gown competitions.

Other candidates who were included in the top 10 were Jessa Costelo (Candoni); Mary Grace Unabia (Pulupandan); Nathalie Persalida (Silay City); Saiphil Nipales (Victorias City); Frances Keith Torres (Talisay City); Tiffany Grace Gentica (Binalbagan); and Janine Eborda (San Carlos City).

Lin-ay sang Bacolod Mary Catherine Abayon was chosen as Miss Sun.Star- Bacolod Readers’ Choice.

Janine Eborda of San Carlos City was named Miss Congeniality while Joy Magielen Jontillano of Kabankalan City was proclaimed Miss Photogenic.

The Best in Festival Costume award went to Frances Keith Torres of Talisay City while the Best Design in Evening Gown went to Larry Ybesate for the gown of the newly crowned Lin-ay sang Negros 2011.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada with the First Lady of Negros Occidental Dr. Marilyn Marañon and 2010 Lin-ay sang Negros Karen Ty crowned Malayo.

Hinobaan Mayor Teresa Bilbao said they were really counting on their Lin-ay candidate to be crowned after she was declared winner in the swimsuit and evening gown categories.

During the question and answer portion, the candidates were made to answer questions pertaining to the 11-point priority agenda of Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr.
