PHILIPPINE Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO) general manager lawyer Jose Ferdinand Rojas II on Wednesday said that an authority to operate a “loterya ng bayan” is given per legislative district.
Before, such is given per province but now, it's per district, he said, adding the deadline for application was last July 15 and that only one applicant was granted the authority.
“The ‘loterya’ will become operational hopefully in 30 to 45 days from the deadline,” he said.
Reports said there were more than 10 applicants from Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.
However, Rojas said there is a board that will assess the applicants, adding he cannot disclose yet who was granted the authority to operate.
“Loterya ng Bayan” will replace the small town lottery (STL), which was the subject of harsh criticisms recently following reports of so-called shares given to some lawmakers and police officers in STL-operated areas. (Carla N. Canet)
