THE lawyer of Ryan Gatoc requested to transfer the detention of his client from Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to Barangay Handumanan BJMP for health reasons, a jail official said Thursday.
BJMP head Jail Chief Inspector Gilbert Peremne said last September 5, the secretary of Attorney Edmundo Manlapao, the lawyer of Gatoc, came to his office asking for the detention transfer of his client to the Barangay Handumanan BJMP.
Gatoc, 31, of Barangay 1, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental is the suspect in the killing of Ilog Councilor Antonio Gequillana Jr.
Gatoc pleads not guilty during his arraignment last September 2 at the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 53, Bacolod City.
Peremne said he already endorsed the request of Gatoc’s lawyer to the RTC for its transfer to Barangay Handumanan BJMP, adding that upon the approval of the court, they will transfer the latter to the Barangay Handumanan detention cell.
Peremne, in the meantime, dismissed the rumor that there’s an alleged threat in the life of Gatoc inside the jail.
But Peremne assured the family of Gatoc that he is secured inside the jail and nothing will happen to him. (Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
