TOTUS Tuus Week will highlight the 31st anniversary of the visit of Blessed Pope John Paul II in Bacolod City.

"Totus Tuus" is the Latin phrase for "All Yours!" or "Completely Yours!" which means "a total commitment to God." It is the motto of the late Pope during his papacy.

It was also the cry among Bacolenos who were in the streets during the Pope's motorcade in the city in 1981, Monsignor Victorino Rivas, vicar general of the Diocese of Bacolod, said Wednesday.

"This year marks the 31st anniversary of the visit of the Pope John II to Bacolod City on February 20, 1981 - a historic event that rekindled the faith and renewed hope in this part of the Catholic world, Rivas said.

The Totus Tuus Week, which will run from February 13-20, will highlight among others the institutions that have risen in Bacolod in honor of the late Pope.

Bacolod is home to three John Paull II institutions. These are Pope John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family (JP II Institute) at the University of St. La Salle Bacolod campus, JP II Cultural Center at the Sacred Heart Seminary along Lacson St., and JP II Tower at the Reclamation Area.

A national conference on Nuptial Theology will also be held on February 13-17 at the Planta Centro Bacolod Hotel and Residences.

The conference entitled "Blessed John Paul II’s Nuptial Theology: Call to Family Ministry, Agenda for Humanity” will be hosted by the JP II Institute and the Diocese of Bacolod. About 200 participants are expected to attend the event.

The Totus Week is organized by the JP II Institute, of which Rivas is the director.
