FOLLOWING the magnitude-6.9 earthquake that hit the Visayas region, the disaster council requested school heads in Bacolod City to submit their initial reports on its evaluation or assessment whether they should continue using the buildings.

Joe Marie Vargas, Bacolod City Risk Reduction Management officer, said once they receive the initial reports of the school heads, they will endorse it to the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) and Office of the Building Official (OBO) to conduct an inspection so they would know which school building should be given immediate attention.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Vargas said they have already completed the inspection of the main store of Gaisano in the downtown area and only its third floor is closed to the public.

He thanked the store owner, including those of other establishments since they have engineers who joined their team to conduct the inspection. They will also give the store owners a chance to make corrections based on the recommendations given to them by the engineers.

Vargas also said La Consolacion College and West Negros University informed them that they have suspended classes Tuesday since they have to conduct technical evaluation and inspection to ensure the safety of the students.

Other universities like the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Colegio San Agustin and the University of St. La Salle also conducted their own inspections. (CNC)
