Monday, February 13, 2012
NEGROS Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) chief Allan Guisihan said Noppo will establish a detachment in the reforestation project of the Provincial Government in the upper portion of Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, which had been reportedly intentionally burnt twice already.
“It is underway,” Guisihan said.

He said he has already discussed the matter with 303rd Brigade commander Colonel Oscar Lactao.
Guisihan said they are just waiting for the go signal from the Provincial Government for the putting up of the detachment.
He added that members of the Noppo Public Safety Company, to be augmented by Cafgu members and forest rangers, are eyed to man the said detachment.
The establishment of the detachment in the said reforestation project is one of the recommendations of the Provincial Environment Management Office after arsonists set fire to the area. The resultant conflagration damaged about 50 hectares.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. asserted that the Provincial Government will allocate funds to restore the area damaged by fire.
Marañon said Capitol will continue to reforest the area because of the growing concern on the depleted forest cover on the province, as well as to protect the province’s watersheds.
The governor has ordered for the filing of arson charges against the suspects, after it was established that the recent fire which razed 50 hectares of the project was intentional.
The suspects, believed to be among the informal settlers in the area, are still at large.
