Guihulngan quake victims welcome Bacolod’s aid

THE Bacolod City through the Bacolod Cares program turned over the relief assistance to the victims of earthquake in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental through the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) headed by Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Pamela Candido.
The BFP personnel of Bacolod City rendered their rescue, rehabilitation and medical services from February 8 to 10 in Guinhulngan City, which was affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake last February 6.

Candido reported to the Bacolod City officials that there was no electricity, food and water in the area and the road and bridges were impassable due to cracks, breaks and collapse of structures.
She said 300 families were affected, 36 total structures damaged and, out of the 29 missing persons, only three were retrieved.
Aftershocks continued to be felt in the area, she added.
Guihulngan City Mayor Ernesto Reyes had advised the residents not to stay inside their houses due to structural instability of the buildings.
A total of seven fire engines, 26 BFP personnel and 6 civilian personnel coming from Region 6 were recorded to help the city.
Relief goods received from Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) were delivered to earthquake victims on February 8.
The Bacolod team led by Candido also distributed food packs from the Bacolod Cares program of the city to the people of Barangay Planas composed of Sitios Moog, Kanyongao, Bolo and Palayan in coordination with Barangay Captain Bienvenido Bautista, Jr. and DSWD Representative Rosannil Reyes.
Campus Administrator of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Guinhulngan Campus Dr. Linnie Viernes, asked for the assistance of Bacolod City Fire Station Personnel to distribute five sacks of rice to 113 families of NORSU evacuees.
The Bacolod City Fire Engine 012 provided water delivery and refilled the Talisay and Victorias City fire trucks.
BFP and the government officials of Bacolod are reaching out to the people of Negros Occidental to help the affected areas at Guinhulngan City.
Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson asked residents of Bacolod to deliver their donations to the Bacolod Cares at the New Government Center.
Sayson said the earthquake victims are in need of food, water, tents, and blankets. (CNC)
