THE Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry is now pushing to institutionalize the gasoline support to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) through a Memorandum of Agreement with other businessmen in the city.
This was disclosed Monday by MBCCI president Frank Carbon, who added that the move is in support of BCPO’s anti-criminality campaign.

He expressed hope that by the middle of the year, MBCCI will no longer knock on all doors to ask for support for the city police but instead there will be companies which will regularly donate a certain amount for BCPO.
MBCCI led by Carbon and Crispin Chua together with the Merci Pasalubong Center represented by Ria Akamatsu, Marketing Officer of Merci, and Manuel Dayao, Senior Operations Manager, turned over Monday additional gasoline coupons to BCPO Director Ricardo De la Paz at the BCPO conference room.
Several business establishments such Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola, SM, N and M Pharmacy, L’Fisher Hotel and now Merci Pasalubong Center had turned over their gasoline assistance to the BCPO for the anti-criminality campaign.
Carbon said they will make a MOA with at least 10 businessmen to tie up with the BCPO to donate a certain amount for the city’s police not only for the gasoline needs but also for its logistical needs.
“There’s really a need for the business sector to work with the government. We should work together to help our community,” he said.
Carbon stressed the city police should maintain the peace and order in the city to encourage other businessmen to invest here.
De la Paz also said he is inspired by the support shown by the business sector.
He added that the support of Merci Pasalubong Center is a big help to the city police for the use of Motorized Anti-Street Crimes Operatives (MASCO).
De la Paz stated that the gasoline assistance will be distributed among the different police stations for their MASCO teams to enhance police visibility, especially during night time.
The city director disclosed that he has noted a substantial decrease in street crimes in Bacolod and that several rob, theft and akyat-bahay suspects were also arrested and are presently detained. (MAP)
