Kabankalan City chief of police Superintendent Calixto Mabugat said the identities of the suspects have been established with the help of witnesses through the Philippine National Police rogue’s gallery.
He considered the suspects as “armed and dangerous”.
Mabugat added that police pursuit operations are still ongoing against the two suspects who were believed to have fled towards the mountainous areas of Ilog town which is adjacent to Kabankalan.
He added that while there are numerous information coming in on the whereabouts of the two, these are being validated as some of which have proven negative.
“If there is a big break, we can effect the arrest immediately,” Mabugat said.
Based on the report from the Kabankalan police, the two suspected robbers riding in tandem on a motorcycle shot and killed Celso Cari-an, a bodyguard of sugar trader Hermenia Ledesma, and took P2 million in cash in Barangay 4, Kabankalan City.
Mabugat said Cari-an,67, tried to stop the two suspects from getting the bag of Cheryll Begota, 32, secretary of Ledesma, that contained P2 million in cash when he was shot by the suspects.
He said the families of the two suspects, who were visited by police investigators, refused to cooperate. (Teresa Ellera)
