Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco, who personally went to the affected areas Tuesday, said the whirlwind, which hit the barangay around 4 p.m., was not as strong as the one that hit Pontevedra town last year.
The whirlwind created minor damages to some houses, which are made of light materials.
“The whirlwind destroyed some pig pens and there were also families whose houses were partially destroyed,” he said.
Zayco said he already instructed Bantayan village chief Oscar Abajon to conduct an assessment and make an official report as to the total extent of damages, so the City Government can extend assistance to the affected residents.
Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez also visited the affected families to assess the needs of the residents. (Teresa Ellera)
