Negros Occidental might win hosting of 2013 Palaro

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. bared that the province has a big chance to win in its bid to host the 2013 Palarong Pambansa.

Aside from Negros Occidental, other provinces vying for the hosting of the event are Negros Oriental and Cebu.

Marañon said hosting the Palarong Pambansa will give a big boost to the province in terms of tourism and business, as more than 10,000 athletes and coaches and sports delegates are expected tO come.


The governor also said that Negros is also aspiring to be the sportscapital of the country because of the Negrosanon’s people’s enthusiasm for sports.

“In terms of sports facilities, we also have here the Paglaum Sports Complex and the Panaad Park and Stadium which are both owned and managed by the Provincial Government,” he added.

The voting for the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa next year will take place in August to September this year.

Marañon further revealed that the Provincial Government will give cash incentives for athletes not only from Negros Occidental but also the entire Western Visayas who can bring home medals in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa in Pangasinan.

Marañon said the Provincial Government will give P50,000 cash incentives for team gold medalist, P30,000 for team silver medalist and P20,000 for team bronze medalist.

For individual medalists, Capitol will give P10,000 for gold, P5,000 for silver and P3,000 for bronze.

In the latest medal tally, Western Visayas is leading with 17 medals.
