THE feasibility study for the 40 megawatts (MW) Bago River Hydro Power Plant will start as soon as the Department of Energy (DOE) issues the service contract to Alto Power Corporation, a provincial legal officer said.
Lawyer Jose Maria Valencia, Provincial Legal officer and Chief of Staff of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., said the approval of the service contract may take place in May.
He said Anton Alcantara, Vice President of Alto Power Corp, has already assured that the company is ready with the fees required by the DOE.
The Bago River Hydro Power Plant would cover the rivers from San Carlos City, Don Salvador Benedicto, Murcia and Bago City. The plant will be located in Murcia.
The detailed engineering study costs millions of pesos while the 40-MW hydro power plant was estimated to cost P40 billion.
The studies, Valencia said, will take about a year. After the study, the construction will start as soon as the details will be discussed with the officials of the concerned local government units.
Aside from stable power for the province, the hydro power plant project will also create more than a hundred jobs for the people of Negros, Valencia said.
