THE chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the schedule for filing of the certificate of candidacy (COC) for the incoming 2013 elections stays.

The filing of the COC is set on October 1 to 5, which is about seven months before the May 2013 elections.

Comelec chair Sixto Brillantes said the schedule of activities for the 2013 elections were already set.

The campaign period for the local candidates will start 90 days before the election day, while for the national candidates, the campaign period will start 45 days before the election day.

The October schedule will mean an early start of the political fever all over the country where elections are held every three years.

Some believe the early schedule for the filing of the COC is advantageous for the incumbent officials who would no longer need to resign from their respective positions for the duration of the election season.

Brillantes was in the province during the special elections at the 5th district last Saturday.
