Binay: We are not opposition

MAKATI Mayor Erwin “Junjun” Binay clarified Monday that the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), founded by his father Vice President Jejomar Binay, is not an opposition party.
Mayor Binay, who met Monday with Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and some mayors in the province at Nature's Village Resort Hotel in Talisay city, pointed out that his father is a member of the official cabinet of President Benigno Aquino III.
"So, he cannot be considered as an opposition," he said.
Vice President Binay, concurrently chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, was supposed to be at Nature's Village on Monday with the governor for HUDCC’s “Pabahay Caravan” program and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for housing projects between the Home Development Mutual Fund and the Provincial Government.
He, however, was not able to come to the province because he was asked by President Aquino to attend the burial of Saudi Crown Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, his son said.
The Vice President left the country for Saudi Arabia on Monday.
Mayor Binay said the alliance formed by his father’s UNA party with other political parties is a normal move among political parties, citing that such working alliances will also be good for the country.
The Vice President is believed to be strengthening UNA with his alliances in preparation for his presidential ambition in the coming 2016 national elections. (TDE)
