16th Mudpack festival ‘a resounding success’

MAMBUKAL RESORT -- The staging of the two-day 16th Mudpack festival last Saturday and Sunday in the town of Murcia was a resounding success, said Ellen Vasquez, manager of Mambukal Mountain Resort.
Despite the rains that attempted to slow down the celebration, Negrenses who went there enjoyed the festivities. San Miguel Brewery sponsored three local bands that entertained the celebrators all night long.
Local artists were given the opportunity to show their artistic talents and skills using various kinds of muds and indigenous materials.

Lawyer Ma. Aleta C. Nuñez, Provincial Environment and Management officer, opened the festival in behalf of Governor Alfredo G. Marañon Jr.
The various competitions that gave color to the festival included poster making contest for kids, mixed media art competition, tribal dance competition, drumbeating competition, installation arts competition, solo dance improvisation and clay body competition.
The winners for the tribal dance competition were Tribu Poseidon, which was declared champion and won a cash prize of P10,000; Tribu Pontevedra Dance Company won 2nd place with P6,500 cash prize; and Tribu Kalunangan winning 3rd prize with cash prize of P3,500.
Two other tribes that failed to make it received a consolation prize of P1,200 each.
For the drum beating competition, the winners were Tribu Norte, which was declared as champion, receiving a cash prize of P8,500; Tribu Kinaadman was 2nd place winner with cash prize of P5,000; and Tribu Pani was 3rd prize winner with cash prize of P3,000.
There were two other tribes that received a consolation prize of P500 each.
For the mixed media art competition, the winners were Redmond Nazareno, champion, receiving P5,500; Joan Garzon was declared 2nd prize winner with P3,500; and Kenneth Po as 3rd prize with cash prize of P2,000.
There were five contestants who received consolation prizes of P800 each.
The Mudpack organizers extended their gratitude to their sponsors who made the festival possible and successful.
They thanked Negros Occidental Governor Marañon and major sponsors for their support and generosity, namely: third district Representative Albee Benitez, San Miguel Brewery, Coca-Cola Bottlers, Energy Development Corporation and Dynamic Builders & Co. as Mudpack Festival major sponsors.
The minor sponsors include RBA Janitorial & Manpower Services, G.C. Appliance Centrum, E & R Security & General Services, Albhebz Marketing, Alfie's Construction Supply, Bacolod Republic Hardware, Wilkinson Construction, Kelvin Nocoli Ent., Hong San Auto Supply, ALA Balay Imprinta, JJS Sales and R.A. Construction.
The organizers also extended their gratitude for the support of Philippine Army 303rd Infantry Brigade headed by Army Colonel Oscar Lactao, Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office Director Allan Guisihan, Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, Murcia police and all media entities in Bacolod City.
