DIRECT assault and frustrated murder charges will be filed today, Wednesday, before the City Prosecutor’s Office against the five suspects who stabbed a policeman and his companion at the Capitol Lagoon last Sunday.
Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Director Ricardo De la Paz said Tuesday they will file the charges against Dark Demon Society clan member Edsel Esteban, 32, resident of Purok Kametal, Barangay Bata; clan leader Jomarie Alberto, 22, resident of Had. Balili, Barangay Gahit, E.B Magalona and three “John Does.”
Esteban, Alberto and three unidentified suspects stabbed Police Officer 1 Ryan Lumogdang of the Regional Public Safety Battalion detailed at Station 2, and his companion Mitchelle Santillan, 33, of Purok Mars, Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Lumogdang and Santillan sustained multiple stab wounds in different parts of their bodies and were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH). They are now in stable condition.
Lumogdang was stabbed in the chest but he luckily survived when the knife hit his dog tag pendant.
“Without his dog tag pendant, maybe he was killed,” De la Paz said.
Investigation showed that at about 5:30 p.m. while Lumogdang was roaming inside the Capitol Lagoon with Santillan, they saw a group of teenagers who were unruly and armed with an unidentified weapon.
When Lumogdang approached the group, he was suddenly stabbed by Esteban. He managed to parry the bladed weapon but he was hit in his left arm, police records showed.
One of the suspects, Esteban, sustained a gunshot wound in his right foot when Lumogdang shot him. He was rushed to the CLMMRH for medical treatment.
Alberto was arrested in follow-up operation while the three others are still at large. (MAP)
