THE convention of the United Negros Alliance (UNA) may take place in August, two months before the filing of the certificate of candidacy for the 2013 elections, Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez said Tuesday.
Alvarez said the convention is usually presided by former Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco, founder of UNA, and is participated by the top officials of the province, including the governor, vice governor and six congressmen.
He said that during the meeting, Cojuangco would ask each of them what position they plan to vie for. He, however, said that he is uncertain if the same procedure still applies in the coming convention.
Alvarez was reportedly endorsed by first district Representative Jules Ledesma to Cojuangco to be UNA’s standard bearer in the province. Ledesma’s endorsement was reportedly backed by majority of the mayors in the province.
When asked about his relationships with the mayors in the province, Alvarez said they have nothing against him.
He said though that he will just submit himself to the party and that he will just follow the party’s decision.
Meanwhile, Alvarez confirmed that his daughter, incumbent sixth district Representative Mercedes Alvarez, will be seeking reelection in next year’s polls. The vice governor made the clarification amid reports that he and her daughter may swap posts in the 2013 elections.
