2 lawmakers back SSS pension hike

THE move of Bayan Muna party-list Representative Teddy Casiño to upgrade the SSS pension of seniors from P2,400 to P7,000 gained the support of two lawmakers in the province.
Dubbed as the SSS pension upgrade bill, it gained the support of Representative Jeffrey Ferrer (4th district) and Thirdy Marañon (2nd istrict).
“I personally thank Congressmen Ferrer and Marañon for supporting the measure. I am also apprised that the Provincial Board and the City Council of Bacolod are supporting the passage of this measure. It is best that more government officials, SSS pensioners and the general public support the measure’s passage so that the measly P1,200 - P2,400 SSS pension range is brought up to bring it closer to the rising cost of living,” Casiño said.
House Bill 4365 aims to amend Republic Act 1161 as amended by R.A. 8262, or the Social Security Law and is pending with the Congressional Committee on Government Franchises and Privatization since March 10, 2011. (CNC)
