BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia celebrates his birthday today, Tuesday, with 11 city mayors and two official representatives as his special guests.
The mayor’s birthday also falls on the same day that the official 2012 MassKara Festival logo will be unveiled at the Bacolod Government Center.
Among his guests are eight city mayors from the province and three from Negros Oriental, while Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano and Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap will send representatives.
City mayors who confirmed their attendance are Bago’s Ramon Torres, Cadiz’s Patrick Escalante, Talisay’s Eric Saratan, Himamaylan’s Agustin Bascon, Sagay’s Rafael Cueva, Kabankalan’s Isidro Zayco and La Carlota’s Juliet Marie Ferrer.
Coming to Bacolod from the Negros Oriental are Canlaon’s Jimmy Clerigo, Bayawan’s Rene Gaudiel, Bais’ Karen Villanueva and Tanjay’s Lawrence Teves.
Leonardia said the city mayors will hold their coordination meeting today, Tuesday, in the city with senior secretariat officers of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP).
They will discuss their role as hosts for the 50th LCP National Executive Board (NEB) Meeting-Expanded, which will be held in Bacolod City on October 19 to 21, the culminating days of the internationally known MassKara Festival of the City of Smiles.
In their forthcoming October 2012 meeting, the LCP mayors will hold dialogues with officials of the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Interior and Local Government and the National Economic Development Authority.
Recently, Leonardia was guest of US Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr. during the US Embassy's celebration of US Independence Day.
The mayor invited the ambassador to be the guest of honor of Bacolod City in this year's MassKara Festival and also to speak before the city mayors who will be attending the NEB Meeting-Expanded.
Meanwhile, Leonardia brushed aside questions about his age. He stressed that he is just happy with what he achieved in his life.
“With a loving family, the constant support of the people who gave me three full three terms as mayor of Bacolod, what more can I ask?"
