Drive vs ‘laglag barya’ thieves intensified

BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) Director Ricardo De la Paz ordered on Monday all station commanders to intensify their campaign against “laglag barya” thieves who operate in Bacolod.
De la Paz issued the order after he received complaints of “laglag barya” thieves victimizing hapless passengers in public utility jeepneys. The victims lost their cellular phones and wallets.
De la Paz said the modus operandi of the suspects to distract the attention of their target victim is to drop coins on the floor while they try to pay their fares. While the unsuspecting victims try to pick up the coins, the thieves will then steal the cellular phone and wallet from the bag or pocket of the victim.
The city director warned the public to be vigilant and to be always on guard while riding public utility jeepneys.
“If you observe that some coins fell on the floor, don’t pick them up. Let the owner get the coins to avoid being victimized by the ‘laglag barya’ thieves,” he advised. (Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
