DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky Soliman and Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) Mayor Marxlen dela Cruz inaugurated 70 core houses intended for the informal settlers of the town.
The core shelter is located within the perimeter area of the town hall. It is a one-hectare property, which is part of the Northern Negros Natural park, but it has already been excluded from the park and is now part of the town site.
Soliman was in Bacolod to attend the turn-over of projects by the Negros Volunteers for Change and the Yellow Boat Foundation Inc. to residents of Sagay City.
Soliman also visited the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto last Saturday to grace the inauguration of the 70 core shelters, low-cost housing for the 70 families that occupied the area near the town's public market.
"We thanked her (Soliman) for the projects, as DSB is a convergence point where all DSWD programs were availed by the local government," Dela Cruz said.
He added that the Salvadorians were grateful for the many projects that have been implemented at DSB through the DSWD such as day care center, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Kalahi Makamasang Tugon Program, senior citizen's pension, among others. (Carla N. Canet)
