BACOLOD Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson is confident that he will get the nomination of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) in his bid to run for city mayor in the 2013 election.
"I have served Bacolod well. Having been in government for close to 18 years is already a right preparation for that position. Experience wise, I first served government as a barangay kagawad who became a barangay captain, councilor and now as vice mayor eyeing to become the next mayor of Bacolod," he said.
Sayson has the support of his partymates, especially NPC Bacolod chairman last-termer Mayor Evelio Leonardia who eyes the post of Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Anthony Golez Jr.
Leonardia said that NPC still conducts meeting with its officials and members all over the country. Bacolod does not have its schedule yet, he added.
The national leadership is still talking about its possible coalition with the Liberal Party and Nacionalista party, the mayor disclosed. How it will affect them in the local scene is something to be resolved here locally, according to Leonardia.
Regarding the policy that officials should resign from their post when they seek higher positions, Leonardia said that it applies only to civil servants. Elected officials will still discharge their functions, even though they have already filed their certificates of candidacy for re-election or higher position.
