JEWEL Mae Lobaton-Pimentel said that Jam Step is not about numbers but about an advocacy for a healthy lifestyle.
She said this in reaction to the previous statement of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia who until this time does not believe that Jam Step aerobic exercise held in Bacolod City last February 12 gathered 87,700 participants.
Leonardia pointed out that the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony gathered only an estimated 80,000. He said in a previous statement that he cannot believe Jam Step was able to gather 87,700 participants.
Pimentel said the promotion of a healthy lifestyle is the reason why Jam Step was organized and why it succeeded. It's not about numbers, she reiterated.
"I was shocked and sad to know of the mayor's statement about Jam Step. Leaders should have supported this Jam Step because its purpose was to promote healthy lifestyle and it will surely be beneficial to the people - young and adult," Pimentel said.
Bacolod City Lone District Representative Anthony T. Golez Jr. organized Jam Step as an attempt to be included in the Guinness Book of World Record for the most number of people who joined a simultaneous aerobic exercise.
Organizers used the old Bacolod Airport as the venue of the Jam Step 2-12-12. Despite the rain, participants danced the aerobic exercise along with DOH officials and celebrities.
