THE Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) recently completed its engineering surveys for the construction of a fish port in Bacolod City last July 29, 2012.
The survey was conducted upon the request made by Bacolod City Rep. Anthony T. Golez, Jr. to PFDA general manager Edgardo M. Chu to prioritize the construction of a fish port facility in Bacolod City, particularly in Barangay Banago.
Golez said the project, which will be undertaken by the PFDA, will complement the recent developments made by the Philippine Ports Authority in Banago Port.
The survey team, composed of Engr. Darby Macabata, Engr. Dante Tandoy, Allan Abes, Germilina Garcia and Patricia Raymundo, went to Barangay Tangub, Punta Taytay and Barangay Banago.
According to Macabata, the fish port in Sibucao, Barangay Banago was the most feasible for the project. The team will soon come up with a rehabilitation and expansion plan of the fish port in Sibucao, he added.
He also revealed that the fish port in Sibucao was constructed under the initiative of former Bacolod City Cong. John Orola and is under the administration of Barangay Banago.
“I am happy with the findings of the PFDA. The rehabilitation and expansion of the fish port in Sibucao will truly create more opportunities for Bacolod City. I exerted utmost efforts in requesting PFDA for a fish port project in Bacolod City, which primarily relies on sugar.
Aside from strengthening the sugar industry, there is also a need to bring more opportunities for Bacolodnons. I am sure that projects like the improvement of the Sibucao fish port will bring more livelihood opportunities for Bacolodnons," said Golez.
