Guv: Let us help Luzon flood victims

GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. called on Negrenses Wednesday to help the victims of massive floods in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon.
"We have been very fortunate that we are always spared by God from those calamities. We encourage our fellow Negrosanons to donate through private institutions that gather donations," Marañon said.
He said the Provincial Government is looking for available funds for such donation for those who were affected by the floods.
Such flooding occurs partly because of improper waste disposal, according to the governor.
He further emphasized the importance of tree planting to avert flooding and proper waste disposal.
The Provincial Government has been prepared for such eventualities, Marañon said. Among preparations to avert such calamity in the province was Capitol’s purchase of the dredger which is now clearing the waterways in EB Magalona. Recently, he exhorted flood-prone local government units (LGUs) in the province to procure their own dredgers.
He pointed out the flooding was minimized when the province experienced heavy rains last week because the dredger was able to clear the waterways earlier.
