THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) directed the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to cancel the Best Senior Police Commissioned Officer of the Year award given to Police Superintendent Santiago Rapiz.
BCPO Director Ricardo De la Paz said Friday that Police Regional Office-Western Visayas Director Argimero Cruz Jr. was ordered by DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo during the 111th Philippine National Police (PNP) Anniversary celebration last Thursday to cancel the award because of the three months suspension slapped earlier on Rapiz.
Rapiz was suspended last June 15 up to September 15 for simple neglect of duty when he was assigned as police chief of Escalante City in 2010.
Before his suspension, Rapiz racked up achievements in the campaign against illegal drugs as chief of BCPO’s City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (CAIDSOTG) and Special Operations Group (SOG).
DILG revoked the award after Roberto Hernandez of Silay City questioned the award in view of Rapiz’s three months suspension, said De la Paz. (Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
