KABANKALAN City Mayor Isidro Zayco said everybody in the United Negros Alliance (UNA) is working to avoid the showdown between Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez.
UNA is the provincial political alliance of elected officials belonging to different national political parties.
Zayco said there should only be one UNA candidate for the gubernatorial slot in the 2013 polls.
He added that meetings are being held among members of UNA to prevent any breakup in the party.
"We are working to preserve the unity of UNA," Zayco said.
He also said that top officials of the alliance will have a meeting before the end of this month.
"Everybody is working to avoid a showdown," Zayco said.
When asked who between Marañon and Alvarez he will support, Zayco declined to comment.
Meanwhile, he said his formal written appointment as the new provincial chairman of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) is expected to come this week.
Zayco said he personally talked to Marañon regarding his appointment as NPC provincial chairman by the national directorate but declined to further elaborate.
His appointment was reportedly signed by NPC secretary of the Board Frisco San Juan and NPC national chairman Faustino Dy.
