THE Metro Ormoc Community Cooperative Inc., Katilingban sang Paghili-usa (Kasanag) and the 303rd Infantry Brigade Medical Team conducted a medical mission at A. Maranon Elementary School in Murcia Wednesday.
School children and their parents who reside in a far flung area in this town availed of the free medical check-up and free medicines and vitamins provided during the medical mission.
Kasanag founder and president, John Chiong and Alvin Tagalogon, OCCI branch manager, joined hands to extend medical assistance to residents of this area.
Tagalogon said the medical mission is in line with OCCI's 34th year anniversary nationwide and 2nd anniversary of Bacolod branch.
There were 24 kinds of medicines and vitamins which were given to the beneficiaries.
The 303rd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army also conducted a free hair cut to the school children and free massage to parents.
Moreover, Mr. Chiong clarified the organization’s membership fee is of no charge.
He said this after receiving reports from a Kasanag member that there is a group that recruits members in Bago City and Kabankalan City that charges a membership fee of P100 per applicant.
"Our organization is driven by the spirit of volunteerism which advocacy is deeply rooted on the greater welfare of the people. We provide medical needs of our brothers and sisters and never charge them with membership fee," Chiong said.
"We are doing our best effort to provide medical needs for our fellow Negrenses and Ilonggos. But we never ask or require anyone who wants to join our organization to pay the membership fee," Chiong added. (Carla N. Canet)
