Marañon vs. Alvarez for guv in 2013-A A +A
Tuesday, September 11, 2012
ABOUT 20 mayors under the United Negros Alliance (UNA) have endorsed the tandem of two mayors for the provincial race amidst continuing rift between Governor Alfredo Marañon and Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez.
The mayors endorsed the tandem of La Carlota City Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer and EB Magalona Mayor David Albert Lacson as gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial bets for the United Negros Alliance.
The mayors endorsement came at a time when Vice Governor Alvarez declared that he will run for governor in 2013 and will file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on October 1, first day for the filing of the COC.
He is set to run in tandem with former San Carlos City Mayor Eugenio ' Bong' Lacson.
In reaction to the mayors endorsement of common provincial bets, Alvarez said the move only complicates things with UNA. The mayors who attended the said meeting are those that are not identified with him.
Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco was the only mayor identified with Alvarez who attended the mayors meeting while the rest were those identified with Marañon.
Marañon, on the other hand, reiterated his decision to seek reelection.
He said nothing final was reached in that mayors meeting.
The governor refused to answer further questions pertaining to politics.
"Less talk, less mistakes. We better discuss development projects in the province," he said.
Ferrer in a separate interview said nothing is final yet even with the mayors endorsement.
"We want to have a common candidate but nothing is final yet as that would depend on the governor, the Vice Governor and Ambassador Danding Cojuangco", Ferrer said when asked about the possibility that she will slide down to Vice Governor in tandem with Marañon in case her tandem with Lacson.would not be acceptable to the high officials of the party.
"If both are running, there wouldn't be a common candidate", Ferrer added when asked for reaction about Marañon and Alvarez statements that they will run despite the said endorsement of the mayors. (Teresa D. Ellera)
