NEGROS Occidental Representative Alejandro Mirasol (fifth district) said he hopes the leadership of the Liberal Party (LP) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) will settle his bout against his nephew, Board Member Emilio Yulo III.
This as Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez, gubernatorial candidate of NPC in the province, confirmed fielding Yulo against Mirasol despite the incumbent congressman's confirmation of his support for his candidacy because of party's decision.
Yulo has confirmed running again against his uncle after he was offered by the NPC. He said he has been informing the group of Alvarez that he is available to run again for congressman.
Mirasol won in a special election held last June 2 over Yulo with the backing of Marañon and the LP provincial chair Representative Albee Benitez (third district).
During the mass oath taking last Saturday, NPC presented its candidates in the fifth district, namely: Agustin Bascon of Himamaylan City, Leopoldo Gepes for Binalbagan, Caroll Guanco for Hinigaran, Enrico Elumba for La Castellana, Ella Garcia Yulo for Moises Padilla, and Enrique Montilla for Isabela.
Mirasol said he enjoys the support of the majority of the incumbent mayors in the district, namely Alberto Nicor of La Castellana, Francisco Nazareno of Moises Padilla, Emmnuel Aranda of Binalbagan, Hermilo Aguilar of Hinigaran and Francis Malabor of Isabela.
Benitez also assured support for the LP candidates in case of a showdown against NPC candidate, adding that the areas where the LP and NPC candidates will be running against each other will be declared a free zone. (Teresa D. Ellera)
