GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. said 15 mayors attended the meeting of the United Negros Alliance (UNA) at Nature's Village Hotel in Talisay City last Saturday.

Marañon refused to give further details about the said meeting.

A source (name withheld) said the meeting started during lunch time and lasted until the evening.

Those who attended the meeting were Mayors Marxlen Dela Cruz of Don Salvador Benedicto, Evello Valencia of Toboso, Francisco Nazareno of Moises Padilla, Patrick Escalante of Cadiz City, Jomar Alonzo of Pontevedra, David Albert Lacson of EB Magalona, Lourdes Escalante of Manapla, Mario Magno of San Enrique, Juliet Marie Ferrer of La Carlota City, Hermilo Aguilar of Hinigaran and Jose Montelibano of Silay City.

The mayors who were absent and perceived to be supporting Marañon are Mayors Rafael Cueva of Sagay City, Emmanuel Aranda of Binalbagan and Alberto Nicor of La Castellana.

Fourth District Representative Jeffrey Ferrer was also present in the meeting but came late with former Board Member Enrique Miguel Lacson.

Also present in the meeting, according to the source, were Board Members Salvador Escalante and Nehemias Dela Cruz, Vice Mayors Glory Gomez of Valladolid, Abner Jardinico of San Enrique and Rex Depasucat of EB Magalona.

Marañon raised the hands of Montelibano and his former opponent in Silay City, former Mayor Edwin Velez, who is reportedly running either for Vice Mayor of Silay City or Board Member in the Third District.

Marañon described himself the underdog in the election against his opponent, Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez.

Seventeen mayors had attended and are believed to be supporting Alvarez when his candidacy was launched Saturday, September 22, at L' Fisher Hotel during the oath-taking of the Nationalist People’s Coalition where party chairman emeritus Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco was present. (TDE)
