REPRESENTATIVE Albee Benitez, provincial chair of the Liberal Party (LP), admitted Monday that the mayors in the province who belong to LP are not solid in their support for Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez.
"LP's priority is our national candidates. At the local level, in case of conflict areas, LP will fully support its members. There are areas that will be declared free zones. The only unifying factor among the LP members are the principle and ideas which the party stands for. If there are other reasons why they joined the party, I think they have to find some other party," Benitez declared.
Benitez made the statement amid a situation where there are several areas in the province where the Nationalist People Coalition (NPC) under Alvarez will field candidates against incumbent mayors who belong to LP.
Specific case is in the fifth district where Alvarez confirmed that he supports Board Member Emilio Yulo III, who is running for congressman against incumbent Congressman Alejandro Mirasol, who is an LP member and has also declared support for Alvarez.
"LP supports Mirasol 100 percent. You should ask Vice Guv. Why didn’t Yulo join the NPC if he is running under the party?" Benitez said.
Benitez also bared his candidates for mayors in the third district, namely, Wantan Palanca for Victorias City (LP), David Albert Lacson (NPC) in EB Magalona, Jose Montelibano (LP) in Slay City, Eric Saratan (LP) in Talisay City and Andrew Mobtelibano (NPC) in Murcia.(Teresa D. Ellera)
