COUNCILORS Caesar Distrito and Carl Lopez, together with Migs Estrella of the Nacionalista Party (NP), decided to continue their partnership with the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) under the local political group Grupo Progreso come 2013 elections.
During a meeting with NP national officials, Distrito, Lopez and Estrella authorized the local NP leadership to join and partner with any political group, considering that NP, NPC and the Liberal Party had also a partnership in the national level.
"We had decided to continue with our partnership with the NPC group of Mayor Bing Leonardia, who had filed today his COC (certificate of candidacy) as congressman, and Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson, who also filed his COC as mayor, because we had very good relations in said the group, and we share the same platforms of government and advocacies such as good governance, self-reliance and job generation, environmental protection, emancipation from poverty and injustice, and many others," Distrito said.
The three explained that they are already comfortable with their colleagues in the Grupo Progreso, where Distrito and Lopez are also members of the Five Stars, the group of five incumbent councilors who are still up for re-election together with Councilors Bobby Rojas, Em Ang and Mona Dia Jardin.
"Although we still have not formalized it, we see no reason to leave our local group, Grupo Progreso. We have a good partnership with the NPC headed by Mayor Bing Leonardia and Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson," Lopez said.
In the 2010 elections, Grupo Progreso, an alliance of NPC and NP, posted a landslide victory, garnering all the top 3 positions and seven out of 12 councilors. (CNC)
