Ferrer to run for guv in 2016

WHILE he confirms support for Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. for his reelection bid, Congressman Jeffrey Ferrer of fourth district declared Friday that he will run for governor in the 2016 elections.
Ferrer made the declaration after filing his candidacy paper Friday with
his wife La Carlota City Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer, his son Julius Martin Asistio, and Mayors Ramon Torres of Bago City, Romel Yogore of Valladolid, Jose Maria Alonso of Pontevedra, and Mario Magno of San Enrique.
Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña also assured support for him, Ferrer said.
On the candidacy of his challenger former Board Member Ike Barredo, Ferrer said that he welcomes Barredo’s candidacy.
Ferrer is running under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC)-United Negros Alliance (UNA), while Barredo is also running under NPC as his national party and as independent in the local level.
On the support of some mayors in their district to Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez for gubernatorial bid, Ferrer said that they maintain their good relationships because they support everyone's decision.
Ferrer, who will be graduating in 2016, said that his running for governor in 2016 would depend on the performance of whoever will be elected governor for 2013 to 2016.
“Both Marañon and Alvarez are strong contenders so may the best man win.
They have to show their platforms of government for the people of Negros to decide for them,” Ferrer added. (Teresa D. Ellera)
