No P9,000 bonus for Capitol employees

PROVINCIAL budget officer Percival Salado Jr. confirmed Wednesday that the Provincial Government cannot release the P9,000 anniversary bonus to its employees.
"It has no legal basis and the Department of Budget and Management does not allow for the release of such bonus claimed by the employees," Salado said.
He said that during the first quarter of this year, the anniversary bonus amounting to P3,000 for each employee was already released.
The employee's union said that their basis for claiming the P9,000 anniversary bonus is based on history that Negros Occidental was founded in 1901 from the date which was earlier believed, which is 1917.
However, Salado said the granting of the anniversary bonus started only in 1997. The release was made every five years so the employees were also given such bonus in 2002, 2007 and this year during the first quarter.
He said the union members have already asked the Budget Management office about it.
Salado said Governor Alfredo Maranon cannot approve or order the release of the anniversary bonus since it has no legal basis. (TDE)
