2 candidates could be declared nuisance

TWO candidates in the province running in the 2013 elections could be declared as nuisance, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Wednesday.
Lawyer Jessie Suarez, Provincial Comelec Supervisor, said the Comelec Regional Office is set to discuss today, Thursday, their evaluation on the candidates who could be declared as nuisance.
A candidate, according to Suarez, could be declared a nuisance based on three instances: the candidate is putting the electoral process in mockery; if a candidate’s intention is to cause confusion and prejudice a serious candidate; and if a candidate has no intention to run for public office.
However, Suarez said they cannot divulge the names of the two candidates who would be considered nuisance.
Meanwhile, Suarez is reminding everyone the deadline of the registration of candidates is on October 31, adding there will be no extension for the registration of voters. (Teresa D. Ellera)
