Partylist protests from exclusion

ABOUT 80 members of the Alliance for Rural Concerns (ARC)-Negros Occidental Chapter trooped Wednesday to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Office in protest to the exclusion of their group in the 2013 elections.

Joel Alapar, Vice President for the Visayas of ARC, said the recent purging of the list of accredited partylist groups and organizations were met with various reactions from various sectors.

ARC was disqualified by Comelec on the ground that the group allegedly does not represent the marginalized sector.

Alapar said the Comelec's decision is unfair because ARC has won representation at the House of Representatives in 2007 and it has been responsive to the concerns for the urban poor, farmers, agrarian reform beneficiaries and other marginalized sectors. (Teresa D. Ellera)
