MassKara street dance kicks off Saturday

MELEVEN contingents will compete today, Saturday, in the MassKara festival street dance competition under school category, Rudy Reveche, Chairman of the Street Dance Committee said.
Education Training Center Schools (ETCS) II, A. Mabini Elementary School (ES), Montevista ES, A. L. Jayme ES, Banago I ES, E. Garcia ES, and Sum-ag ES will compete under the elementary school category.
Luis Hervias National High School (NHS), Luisa Medel NHS, Domingo Lacson NHS, and Teofilo Gensoli NHS will compete under the High School category.
The street competition starts at 3 p.m. from Hernaez (formerly Libertad)—Araneta Streets, followed by the arena competitions at 4 p.m. at the Bacolod public plaza.
The dancers will start performing from the Araneta St., going to Gonzaga St., San Juan St., Rizal St. (fronting San Sebastian Cathedral), Gatuslao St. until the plaza entrance.
A photographers’ lane is designated along the Araneta St. for the official photographers of the event, he said.
He added the festival organizers will give out special awards for Best in Mask, Best in Costume, Best Concept, and Best Choreography.
The street performance, comprising 50 percent of the total score, will be judged based on dance consistency, choreography, performance, and production design; while the arena performance, comprising the other 50 percent, will be judged based on concept, choreography, performance , and production design.
For the school category, prizes for each secondary and elementary levels are: P50,000 for the champion; P30,000 for the first runner-up; P20,000 for second runner-up; P10,000 for third runner-up; and P10,000 for fourth runner-up. (Carl N. Canet)
