THE Liga nga mga Barangay is supporting House Bill 6567 authored by Negros Oriental Representative George Arnaiz, chairman of House committee on local government.
Bacolod City Councilor Catalino Alisbo said the House Bill 6567 is a measure that will provide lump sum retirement pay for barangay officials, including barangay tanods (village watchmen), members of lupon tagapamayapa, barangay health workers and barangay day care workers.
He said that under the measure, the retirement benefit to be taken from the barangay retirement fund will be awarded to those who are at least 60 years old and have served for a minimum of nine years upon their retirement.
He said that according to Arnaiz, the retirement benefit is in recognition of the barangay officials' contribution to the community, and is expected to raise their economic and social status and encourage them to continue their public service.
The Department of Interior and Local Government is tasked to administer and ensure the appropriate disbursement of the retirement fund. (CNC)
