GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. advised the local officials of Cadiz City to go on with the proposed coal-fired power plant in the city.
Marañon made the statement amid opposition by some environmental groups about the project in Cadiz City.
He said the environmental controls are in place in the coal-fired power plants, like in Iloilo and Cebu that's why people cannot hear complaints such as health issues or any other pollution issues on these existing coal-fired plants.
Marañon said the people opposing the project are just talking without any facts or basis.
“We need to be secured of stable power. That's why we need to have a power plant in the province,” Marañon said.
He cited the coal-fired power plants exist even in countries having strict environmental laws such as Japan, America, Taiwan, among others.
Meanwhile, Cadiz City Mayor Patrick Escalante revealed Tuesday the Coal Fired Power Plant project in the city was approved by President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Binay.
The target date of completion of the power plant is in December 2014, Escalante said. (Teresa D. Ellera)
