Marañon: Alvarez might be in ‘politics of subtraction’-A A +A
Friday, November 9, 2012
GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. said his opponent Vice Governor Lim-ao Alvarez might be engaging in “politics of subtraction” with his reaction to his cousin Merceditas Montilla, who has been friendly with Marañon.
Alvarez earlier said that he can even gain more votes with Merceditas supporting the other party.
"How can he gain more votes? His cousin is not supporting him and he will still gain more votes?" Marañon said, calling Alvarez's statement an "illogical analysis" and accusing the vice governor of engaging in "politics of subtraction."
Alvarez said he is not surprised that his cousin is supporting Marañon, quoting, "One can choose his friends but not his relatives."
Merceditas Montilla was the donor of the two-hectare lot in Barangay Canturay, the site of the hospital and the access road.
She earlier said that she preferred to call the area as a "Friendship Avenue," which will symbolize her friendship with the Marañons.
