REPRESENTATIVE Alejandro Mirasol (5th district, Negros Occidental) reiterated that he will support Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez in the coming May polls, despite the latter’s absence in his birthday celebration Monday.
"I have already said that. It's what I have said," Mirasol told reporters Monday, referring to his earlier statement that he supports Alvarez.
The lawmaker was asked anew about whom he will support in the elections after Alvarez’s opponent for the gubernatorial post, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., with his running-mate Board Member Melvin Ibañez, arrived at his birthday celebration at the Binalbagan town hall.
"I welcome everyone who comes here. I have not extended any invitation to anyone," Mirasol said.
He said he and Alvarez have talked and seen each other over the past few months, and that he will abide by the decision of Representative Albee Benitez (3rd district), provincial chair of the Liberal Party in the province, who supports the tandem of Alvarez and Bong Lacson.
He said he is busy going out distributing projects in his district and consulting the needs of his constituents.
He said that he already infused P70 million worth of infrastructure projects in his district after his election in a special poll last June 2012.
Mirasol is a nephew of Marañon and most of the mayors at the fifth fistrict support the incumbent governor, except for Himamaylan Mayor Agustin Bascon who supports Alvarez.
Alvarez, on the other hand, confirmed that they fielded Board Member Dino Yulo against Mirasol for a rematch in the 2013 elections.
Mirasol said he enjoys the support of the Liberal Party and that he will stick with the party's decision in terms of politics. (TDE)
